Monday 14 November, 2005. Mr James Breeze, a Sydney business operator with big ideas, has beaten a field of Australia's top innovators to become a finalist in the 2005 Yellow Pages® Business Ideas Grants program, run by Australia’s leading information resource, Sensis Pty Ltd. Mr Breeze entered the Best Medium Business Idea — Metro category, and is among 10 other finalists from around the nation.

Mr Breeze’s business, PTG Global, has developed XPDesign™, the world’s first scientific methodology for designing high performance transactional user interfaces. “It translates high level business requirements into a visual, precise and unambiguous IT Blueprint, just like an architect’s blueprint. It can be quickly and easily understood, tested and confirmed against requirements and, most importantly, produces technology that is easy to use,” said Mr Breeze.

Mr Breeze added that the Blueprint has its greatest impact when created before a vendor or systems integrator is engaged or a single line of code is written. “It gives business certainty of outcome, mitigates traditional IT risks and reduces time and cost of implementation. There is no need to spend years delivering multiple releases or dealing with hundreds of change requests to try and get it right.Customers and staff are satisfied and productive.

“XPDesign™ standardises the way user interfaces work across a variety of applications, reduces the number of screens in most applications by at least 50 per cent, and the resulting application can be used with minimal training. It has helped our clients to provide superior customer service, enhanced staff performance, satisfaction and increased profitability through improved usability and relevance of their IT applications”.

On 22 November 22 at an award ceremony held in Melbourne Mr Breeze shared in a prize pool worth more than $200,000, including cash grants and advertising.

Sensis Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bruce Akhurst, congratulated all finalists. He said Sensis was honoured to recognise some of Australia's most innovative business ideas through the Yellow Pages® Business Ideas Grants program. These awards, celebrating their tenth year, have been designed to encourage, reward and showcase the depth and versatility of Australian small and medium businesses.

“Ranging from high tech to human interest innovations, the past decade has shown some true examples of entrepreneurship which prove there are no boundaries to innovation within Australian small business,” Mr Akhurst said.

“This year, rather than focussing on inventions, we wanted to help recognise outstanding Australian business owners and operators who are implementing new ideas in their everyday business, giving them a competitive edge.

“Australia’s small business sector is vital to the economy, accounting for 58 per cent of employment growth over the past six years and generating about 30 per cent of Australia’s economic production.

“Without innovation and the opportunity to share best practice, incubate ideas, reward leadership and acknowledge entrepreneurship, our economy would not be nearly as prosperous as it is today,” said Mr Akhurst.
